  • Memorandum of cooperation between Iran and Georgia in transit and regional sectors

    Iran and Georgia signed cooperation agreement in transit and regional sectors.

    The 7th meeting of the Joint Commission on International Road Transport Cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Georgia, chaired by the Deputy Minister of Road and Urban Development, was held in Tbilisi.

    Mohammad Javad Atrchian, Director General of the Babian International Transit and Transport Office, said during the seventh meeting of the International Committee on Road Transport of Goods and Passenger, attended by Davood Keshavarzian, Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development and Chairman of the Ministry of Roads and Transport. Georgia's sustainable development was held in Tbilisi, with both sides emphasizing the development of transit relations between the two countries and the promotion of bilateral and multilateral cooperation to develop transit and transit relations.


    He added that the Georgian side emphasized the removal of obstacles and problems for Georgian shipping companies and trucks on Iranian soil, as well as the lubrication and provision of facilities to Georgian trucks.

    Atrchian noted: The two sides discussed issues related to road freight and passenger transportation, co-operation in transit and regional corridors, lack of adequate and efficient insurance coverage for Iranian lorries in the Georgian territory and other issues.

    He emphasized that one of the most important achievements of this summit is the significant increase in the amount of duty free traffic licenses that has increased significantly compared to previous years, half of which will be provided to the Iranian side within a maximum of one month.

    The benefits of increasing the traffic sheets exchanged between the two sides include increased trade and development between the two countries and reduced freight costs.

    The Director General of the Babian International Transit and Transport Office stated that the parties also emphasized on the smoothing and facilitation of Iranian bus traffic and the provision of facilities to them, adding that it was agreed to consider the importance of establishing the six-lane Persian Gulf-Black Sea corridor to be operated by Make the necessary adjustments.

    Atrchian added: "The two sides discussed the launch of face-to-face ports in the ports of Poti and Batumi, as well as the tariffs and costs of these lines, the negotiations and visits by the Iranian delegation.

    It is worth noting that at present more than 9,000 Iranian trucks carry our export goods to Georgia via Azerbaijan or Turkey annually. Georgia's traffic to Iran last year was about 600 vehicles.
