Georgia celebrates International Women's Day

Today, Georgia celebrates World Women's Day (WD).

This day persuades women and acts as a reminder of the importance of gender equality and women's rights.

This is a national holiday in Georgia. It is customary for men and boys to buy flowers and other gifts for women; women also celebrate each other's day.

International Women's Day is celebrated on March 8 each year and commemorates the women's rights movement.

While the first observance of a women's day was held in New York on February 28, 1909, March 8 was proposed by the 1910 International Women's Conference to become an International Women's Day.

March 8 became a national holiday after women were cast in the Russian Council in 1917. This day is mostly celebrated by the socialist movement and the communist countries since they were accepted by the United Nations in 1975.

Tbilisi Oba

Tbilisi is a celebration of Tbilisi's capital Tbilisi, which is held every October in the city and other cities of the country, as well as in several Russian and Eastern European cities where Georgian citizens live. The celebration was first held on October 5, after which it became one of the city's annual traditions and festivals. The centerpiece of the celebration is Old Tbilisi, which hosts festivals of music, food, local games and sports each year, and a celebration of Georgian people's happiness. In recent years the Tbilisi municipality has been the main coordinator and organizer of the celebration.

The festival was founded under Soviet rule and by Eduard Shevardnadze, who aimed to commemorate the 6-year history of Tbilisi by relying on nationalist sentiments. It has been decided for the year to be held on the first weekly holiday of the second half of October since year 6.

Tbilisi mayor Kakha Kaladze said that not using Georgian language words in public places, including publicity, posters, etc., would include heavy fines. Mr. Kaladze added: "It is worth mentioning that the fine increase bill is currently being approved by the Georgian Parliament. We have had many sessions on this issue. Not using the Georgian language is a common problem. For me and the Georgian nation Is acceptable. "
Cladze ordered the Inspectorate of Municipal Affairs to give citizens a chance to resolve these issues on April 1. The fine for not using Georgian words and script after April 1 has been increased from 2 lari to 4 lari for individuals, and will increase from 7 lari to 7 lari for legal entities, including companies and shops. "This increase was not made against a specific group of people or companies, and was purely for the sake of respect for Georgian culture and people," he added.
